To the Angel of the Church in...

This Sunday we're stepping further into our Revelation series and into the seven letters to the churches. Before we open up the letter to Ephesus next week, I want us to slow down and sit with something important: Jesus walks among the lampstands, and he holds the messengers of the churches in his right hand. He didn't send one letter to be copied seven times. He sent seven different letters to seven different churches, because he knew each one — their story, their struggles, their faithfulness, and their blind spots.

Every church has a DNA. A history. A heritage. A culture and a language all its own. Wins and wounds. Strengths and tender places. Ours does too. And every one of these letters ends with the same line: "Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches." Jesus isn't asking whether we have ears. He's asking whether we're willing to actually listen.

This week we'll lay some groundwork for how to read these letters well, and we'll begin asking what it looks like for our church family here in Nikiski to open our ears to what the Spirit is saying to us in this season. Come ready to reflect with us. I'm looking forward to being together Sunday morning.
